For my second venture into meta fashion, this little crop top posed a formidable challenge–finding the perfect green ankle boot. That particular color of green is hard to come by and I still didn’t get it completely right. However, this pointed rain boot really made me happier about the long, wet winter we’ve been having. (These photos were taken within a two-hour sunny window).

Green pointed rain boots

I don’t know if I’ve talked about these Lovesick jeans, but they are my go-to butt jeans. I fucking love them. I am my most feeling-myself self in them.

Green boots plus size crop top

As you can see, this is a pretty subtle meta fashion look so I felt the need to take THIS picture to fully get the point across:

Green pointed rain boots

I got so many pebbles down my chones. Suffer for art. I know I look like I’ve fallen and I can’t get up but I fucking love this shot. Not bad for a tripod. Humble brag.

I just can’t resist a co-ord. Can’t do it. Also, you probably already know about my mustard problem. Naturally, Rebdolls rendered me completely helpless when I saw this baby while browsing. I had also just dyed my hair rose gold and found my perfect nude lipstick so really? Like I had a choice? Buy it or just miss out on this killer color palette? Like how?

Rebdolls yellow two piece set

I decided to have the pants cut ankle-length because I find full-length wide-leg trousers to be disrespectful. Sometimes I want to wear a heel. Most times I don’t. What I never want is to marry a certain pant to a certain shoe. My pants need to be free to check out other shoes without consequence. Stop trying to tie my pants down!

Rebdolls yellow two piece set

Rebdolls yellow two piece set

As much as I love these together, I can’t wait to split them up. However, they have serious power combined. I haven’t been complimented by this many strangers in a long while. But really, what else has the effect of wearing head-to-toe yellow? It makes me want to coach a basketball team every time…

Dee Always Sunny yellow suit

Also, power suit naw. Power ASS.

So here’s the rub. I love two piece sets because I also fucking love crop tops. And when I saw the next set, I was drawn to it but incredibly apprehensive. After all, I am short as shit and while there’s no hiding that, I prefer to not make myself look shorter with lower waistlines. Still, I was oddly compelled to try this.

Elvi plus size plaid dress and pants

This just might be one of those reliving-my-punk-youth moments.

Elvi plus size plaid dress and pants

This was also my first purchase from UK brand Elvi. I have to say I was pleased with the quality and the price point and I really dig their 70s-inspired aesthetic. It’s very similar to Eloquii but with a more conservative use of colors.

I was going to start out with a rant about how being with someone for almost 10 years can make it hard to really wow them but I’m pretty lucky. My husband is insanely easy to please. A nicely cooked egg or some hastily-applied lipstick is usually the effort level it takes to make him to say, “Aww, I get to be with you forever? Awesome.” Nonetheless, making his jaw drop is what I occasionally like to go for and I’ve been meaning to incorporate some butt flashing into my evening wardrobe. Then I found this little number at a thrift store!

Plus size sheer dress

The lace pattern on this sheer dress makes the fact that I am essentially walking around in underwear a little less conspicuous. They also perfectly matched these super sexy thigh bands with one amazing purpose in mind–anti-chafing!

Bandelettes anti-chafing thigh bands

These Bandelettes were comfortable and stayed in place pretty easily. There was some slight roll-down in the back at the very top of the band (because BOOTY), but other than that, they held up amazingly.

Bandelettes anti-chafing thigh bands

This whole look felt like I was wearing lingerie in public and I have to say, I’m about it. That really is the most tragic thing about lingerie when you’re not polyamorous–only one person gets to see it. Boo.

Bandelettes anti-chafing thigh bands

Needless to say, hubs was about it, too. He’s gonna want to skip dessert on Valentine’s Day. Buuuut I’m gonna make him wait for a 20-minute soufflé. Because Feminism.

Boohoo plus size velvet bodysuit

Ughhhhh velvet. I just want to wrap my entire life in it. I made it worse recently by watching The Princess Bride for the first time in like a whole month and even the dudes wear pastel velvet it’s so good *dies*.

Boohoo plus size velvet bodysuit

This sheer skirt was white. I wanted to dye it blush. It came out HOT PINK. I bleached it then dyed two more times only for it to come out the exact same color as this bodysuit. Kinda meant to be. Although I’m still mourning not being able to do a pink and blush combo. Seriously sad about it.

Crystal choker

And what velvet-driven outfit isn’t complete with a crystal necklace for some “good witch” vibes? My big Valentine also loved this look but my lil’ Valentine’s seal of approval was the best part.

And once you invite him in front of a camera, it’s hard to get him focused on anything else.

Damn he looks good in pink. Also, this out-take tickles me:

True story: When I found out I was pregnant, one of the first things I got excited about was the idea of one day owning my very own handmade macaroni necklace. I mean, priorities. However, my son is barely four and I am still waiting for the day he makes me custom crafts. Even his drawings are still in the scribble-that-looks-nothing-like-a-duck-but-you-humor-him-and-say-oh-that’s-the-best-duck-ever phase. So I thought my nine-year-old niece was much better suited to the challenge of designing a dress for both me and herself.

CowCow Yaas custom dress template

CowCow Yaas (Young Aspiring Artists) made this as non-complicated as it gets. You select a shirt or dress, sleeveless or not, in your desired size and print out a template. Then you draw right on it! Lumina here is quite taken with Minecraft so here she is, hard at work on her Herobrine cat dress.

CowCow Yaas custom dress template

She then asked what kind of cats I like, making it clear she would like to stay on theme for both of our dresses. Designers. So persnickety. (I told her I liked Pusheen cats.) When she was done drawing on both templates, I snapped a quick photo of them and uploaded them to the CowCow website. Fast forward a few weeks later and…

CowCow Yaas custom womens and kids dresses

My little nerdlette is all kinds of stoked. And I was pretty amazed at how accurate the print and colors came out! Bonus points for being able to draw on the backs of the templates, too.

CowCow Yaas custom womens and kids dresses

I’m so happy that something like this is size inclusive. Doing this project with my niece, combining her artistic flare and interests with my closet worship, was a total bonding experience. I hope they expand their capabilities to include leggings, womens tops and other cuts of dresses. If they did, I’d be drawing my own crop tops ALL DAMN DAY.

So let’s just get one thing straight–I am not an athlete or gym rat. I enjoy occasional yoga to calm my nerves and strengthen my shoulders (which are fucked from a decade of desk work). I love brisk-ass walks along the marina and swimming laps. And when I’m really mad, there is nothing better than blasting The Dear Hunter in my earbuds while pounding away on the elliptical. But I’m not one of those “good fatties,” dispelling the myths of fat = sudden death. Those ladies give me life and they are a treasure to the movement but you should know that I’m not trying to be fraudulent and paint myself as someone who DOESN’T shake like cray whilst in tree pose.

Lucy Activewear extended sizes

I just got lucky with that shot. Also, I’m not even in full tree. Anyway, as a casual mover, as a person who values comfort and cute things to wear whether I am sweating or not, I was excited to try lucy Activewear’s extended sizes. They had prints, they had my size. Sold.

Then I got a lot more than I bargained for. These are, hands down, the softest, best fitting, best constructed leggings I have ever worn. Remember Homer in the clown pants?

Homer The Simpsons clown pants GIF

Yiss.

lucy Activewear plus sizes

And this top, guys, it’s got a mesh built-in bra. Which for my D-cups won’t do much during cardio sessions (I’m all over it for yoga though). However, we all know not all fat babes have the burden of big boobs so I just love the option. Plus, it has a zip pocket on the back, which is amazing since all activewear needs fucking pockets OMG why doesn’t all activewear have pockets?

lucy Activewear plus sizes

I legit lived in those leggings for two whole days. They also have hidden pockets in the waistband. Lurve.

This next set I did not buy for the purposes of working out because I think it just might be too fabulous not to hit the town in. But I can’t deny that this would make one amazing yoga ‘fit.

Plus Equals plus size crop top and leggings

Like, come on. I didn’t know it was possible to dress up as a mushroom trip but now that I do, my Halloweens (and Tuesdays) will never be the same.

Plus Equals plus size crop top and leggings

My FUPA is in full effect here and if you’re gonna see its mass and might, it’s GONNA be covered in eyeballs goddamnit. After all, when you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you…

Plus Equals plus size crop top and leggings

I just gotta Jazzersize it out.

Plus Equals plus size crop top and leggings

I’ve said this before and I’ve meant it but maybe not as hard as I mean it now after taking these photos but FUCK FLATTERING. My fucking body is flesh, blood, fat, guts, black stuff, angles, lines, shadows, real, imagined. It is what it is depending solely on how you look at it. And when I look at it literally covered in joy, I feel the most connected to it and have no desire to give a fraction of a fuck about what lines may be “out of place.” (OK maybe a fraction but I take that fuck right back. I’m sorry I dangled that little fuck in front of you only to yank it away and say “never mind, I’ll keep this.” That’s rude.)

I remember the time I got very “altered” and went to the movies to see Cabin in the Woods. As the plot unfolded to reveal a self-aware horror movie within a horror movie, one of my viewing companions kept muttering in stoney awe, “It’s so meta. It’s just so meta.” That’s the first thing I thought of when I started seeing graphic tees featuring fashion editorials.

Gold lips graphic tee

I of course already had this amazingly glittery gold lip gloss, but I needed a black tipped nail. And because I refuse to get another acrylic set, I had to go the glue-on route. Luckily, Etsy is the solution to all my problems…except my credit card statement.

Dippy Cow glue on nails

This stained glass set was custom-made just for moi and I love them even more because I can take them off when I’m done channeling my inner Maleficent.

Gold lips graphic tee

I’d been waiting to wear this buttery-ass skirt and the tee is also very soft so aside from the heels and talons, I could have lived all day in this look. Plus there are few combinations I love more than the sleek/slob combo. Like a distressed tee with a tailored skirt or a peplum top with slouchy boyfriend jeans. My grunge roots prevent me from having both my northern and southern hemispheres looking proper simultaneously. If they do, there is belly separating them so people have at least some way of knowing I’m a nasty lil’ punk.

It’s a rare treat that I can support the pricier indie plus size brands, but I take every chance I get. My first purchase with Zelie For She has left me one happy fall fatty.

Zelie for She plus size maxi dress

Finally, my Angelina Jolie leg moment has arrived.

Plus size faux fur vest

Seriously, I’m so stoked I don’t have to wait for spring to finally show off the thigh piece I got done in October. Let’s zoom in for a closer look, shall we?

Zelie for She plus size maxi dress

This print is so luscious, I want to melt it into a cup and drink it like Swiss Miss. I’m a sucker for moody florals. Also, I’m low-key on a 70s kick so a peasant cut like this paired with a ridiculously Sonny and Cher vest really hit the spot.

Plus size faux fur vest

And yes, those are white pointed loafers. I was torn between them and white platform sandals.

OK guys, It’s been a while and I’m LONG overdue. It’s cape time, baby.

Plus size mustard cape jacket

And yes, I know I’m supposed to rock this magnificent bastard FROM TARGET with long sleeves but they just don’t make many long sleeve crop tops (the only kind of tops I wear now) and I’m at a deficit of long sleeve dresses K?

Plus, I really needed to rock my new LuLaRoe dress and thought this color combo was liiiife.

Now that my friends and I are getting older and more parental, we really don’t have many excuses to get together while dressed to the nines. And even if we did, we are so tired that we still secretly want to keep it comfy but it turns into a Mexican standoff where no one wants to say, “hey, let’s just have a pajama party” first. This is precisely what inspired me to work with this silver jumpsuit.

Silver pleated jumpsuit

Shiny, slinky, devoid of all abilities to accidentally flash panties, this piece is perfectly styled for the rowdiest of your New Year’s Eve shenanigans or the most couch-centric. It’s pretty comfortable so I rolled with the comfy chic and paired it with a bomber jacket and flat boots.

Floral bomber jacket

I really didn’t want this look to get too laid back and the easiest way to do that is to bring in the big guns for your accessories. And my favorite “big gun” as of late is crystal.

Baublebar occult necklace

I scored the necklace first and then just happened to find this amazing bun clip to create this ridiculous match made in shopaholic heaven. Again, this was one of those moments:

Kermit dark side meme

Guess which side won.

Silver pleated jumpsuit

So now that we have the comfier look out of the way, I can let my fabulous flag fly with THISSSSS

Sequin pencil skirt

I *clap* WAS *clap*FEELING *clap* MY *clap* SELF *clap* in this look. And that was an accomplishment considering this was a last-minute scramble of a look because Boohoo can’t get their shit together and send me my package on time.

Pink ankle boots

Also, this may officially be the most belly I have ever shown in public. But who wants to talk about a piece of skin when you’re captivated by so much sparkle. Which people were. And the boots were a close second. They continue to be my favorite ASOS purchase ever.

Sequin pencil skirt

The pink in this skirt is what sealed the deal for me. Colored sequin is hard to come by and I want all of it. I want to slowly turn my wardrobe into nothing but Selena stage clothes.

Sequin pencil skirt

Baublebar occult necklace

And one more look at this life-giving necklace. I want to be buried in it. And hopefully be brought back to life by it. Witch vibes.

First off, you have no idea how long I just searched for a GIF or meme depicting the scene in season five of 30 Rock where Liz explains how a bathing suit makes perfectly acceptable underwear when you’re running low on laundry. That’s just plain truth. And let’s just weed out all the liars who say they have never done this. But full disclosure, I had underwear options this day and just really, REALLY wanted to wear this pizza bathing suit.

Leopard faux fur bomber jacket plus size

Lovesick plus size ripped skinny jeans

I love bodysuits, guys. I love them. I didn’t think I could love them more than crop tops but they are closing in on the lead. After all, crop tops roll up when you go hard. And ironically, I love to wear them on “go hard” occasions. The struggle.

Pizza print plus size swimsuit

What laundry day did impede on were my denim choices. I originally wanted to balance the tightness of the suit with a baggy boyfriend jean. But this pair is literally the best pair I own. Bonus 30 Rock reference, they are my Brooklyn Without Limits/Halliburton jeans. My ass will never look better in another pair and I am legit buying a few more of these before they are gone forever.

Leopard faux fur bomber jacket plus size

Oh yeah, also, is there a 12-step program for bomber addiction? This is only the third one I own but maybe the 17th I wanted. I rationalized this one because it’s fuzzy and…that’s it. Yeah. Shut up.

For the most part, there aren’t many things on my “no” list when it comes to my personal style. By now you hopefully know none of that has to do with flattering since I give no fucks. These are just general trends and styles that I tend to avoid, whether I feel they are played out or just plain fugly. Velvet pants, for one, is something I never thought I would buy.

Gray velvet pants

Even though like all college girls, I went through a wearing-pajama-pants-outside phase, I consider that a low point in my fashion life and was not keen on how much velvet pants look like they should have a giant Juicy written on the ass. But these Who What Wear lounge pants called to me, hard. It was probably the color. That gray is gorge.

Aliens loot crate shirt

A crop top (points if you get the ref) and lounge pants are literally things I wear to bed so slapping on a necklace and boots with them felt so wrong, it was right. Mostly, I just like the color palette that happened. Mostly. 😉

Next on my Never Never list was the ever hippy dippy slouchy maxi dress. On top of them being body-hiding garbage bags, this particular one is from H&M, with whom I have pretty serious beef since their size inclusivity is just sad. I can sporadically find things in a 16 but not nearly enough to give them my attention. But here’s the thing: This dress? It’s a medium.

H&M Kenzo maxi dress

Medium! Exactly how drapey is the motherfucker supposed to be, Kenzo? I could have easily fit into the small. This is already a bed sheet on me.

H&M Kenzo maxi dress

I kind of felt like I was sticking it to H&M for buying this. 1.) It was deeply discounted and there were a ton of them so clearly it was not well-received. 2.)Wearing a design not as intended is sometimes a big slap in the face to a brand, so I was happy with that.

Leopard print maxi dress

One upside to so much fabric, it moves like a boss. I can’t wait to wear this fucker on windy day.

I saved my biggest word-eating moment for last. I’ve even written about how much I don’t get the overalls comeback. For this one, I had actual vitriol. But then…70s wide legs came back, too. And then they joined forces. Ugh, so good.

Denim wide leg overalls

Also, this is yet another outfit inspired by my kween, Aarti of Curves Become Her. Her layering of denim to create a jumpsuit-like look was On. Point.

Denim wide leg overalls

I asked for the pants to be altered for wearing flats but somehow, they ended up long. It was actually lucky because I don’t think any shoe looks as good with these than my gold ankle boots.

Plus size denim overalls

It was also a good opportunity to try some lapel accenting, which I actually always loved but rarely wear collars. It’s good to have friends who are Etsy crafters and who share my affinity for burgers and fries!
